In late April, the Denver Broncos made their decision as to who will be their quarterback of the future by selecting former Oregon Ducks star Bo Nix with the number twelve overall pick in the NFL Draft. Nix figures to fill arguably the most important hole on a Broncos roster that certainly has some talented but has been mired in quarterback purgatory for quite some time now, running threw a Motley crew of quarterbacks over the last few years including most notably Russell Wilson, who now plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It seems that the Broncos have wasted no time in solidifying Nix's spot on the roster for not only his rookie campaign, but for years into the future, if the latest reports are any indication.

“Source: Denver’s Bo Nix is the first of the six first-round QBs to reach agreement on his new deal,” reported ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on X, the social media platform formerly referred to as Twitter.

Schefter then quote tweeted that original post with additional context on the specifics of the deal.

“Bo Nix’s four-year, fully guaranteed deal with Denver is expected to be worth $18.61 million,” wrote Schefter.

Indeed, fully guaranteed deals are sometimes a rarity within NFL circles, especially for players on their rookie contracts, but it goes to show that the Broncos seem to have in their young quarterback that they were able to extend him such an offer.

An interesting journey

Bo Nix's college football journey took him from one coast to the other, as the talented high school star first began his career with the Auburn Tigers in the 2019 season. Nix would stay in that uniform for the next three years before taking his talents to Oregon in 2022, where he led a revamped Ducks' offensive attack and established himself as a legitimate contender to win the Heisman Trophy.

Recently, Broncos' general manager George Paton broke down why he believes that Nix is more NFL ready than some of the other, more highly touted members of his draft class, despite the fact that he will be 24 years of age later this year.

“You look at it, it's hard because this is new, but 24 years old is not that old for football,” Paton said. “You evaluate it, but you're really evaluating the player, you're evaluating the person. Evaluate how they fit in with the organization, especially for a quarterback,” said Paton, per Mike Klis of 9NEWS Denver (via Kevin Patra of NFL.com).

Paton also spoke on his collaborative process with head coach Sean Payton as it pertained to drafting Nix.

“I'd watched all the quarterbacks, seen them live (during the regular season on scouting trips),” Paton said. “And then the season's over, I get with Sean and we watched the quarterbacks (on tape). And Sean liked a lot of these quarterbacks.

“And when we got to Bo, it was pretty instant. Sean was like, ‘man.' You know, Sean.

“He really liked him, and then we went to the private workout and spent three hours with Bo in the meeting setting, and he was outstanding. And we go out to the field, and he made 10, 15 throws, and Sean came up to me and said, ‘This is the guy.'”

The Broncos' season is set to start in September.
