The Denver Broncos have requested permission to interview Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak for their head-coaching vacancy, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Broncos just fired head coach Vance Joseph on Monday.

Munchak has been the Steelers' offensive line coach since 2014. Prior to his tenure with Pittsburgh, Munchak served as head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2011 through 2013, going 22-26 and failing to make the playoffs during his three years there.

Munchak got off to a decent start with the Titans, going 9-7 during his first season, but the next two years, Munchak won six and seven games, respectively, leading to his dismissal.

The 58-year-old had been serving in the Tennessee organization dating back to when it was the Houston Oilers franchise back in 1994.

He began as a quality control coach with the Oilers from 1994 through 1996 and then took over as the offensive line coach in 1997, a position he held through 2010 before finally being promoted to head coach in 2011.

Munchak also had a star-studded NFL career with the Oilers from 1982 through 1993, making nine Pro Bowls and earning four First-Team All-Pro selections. His No. 63 is also retired by the franchise.

The Broncos went just 6-10 this season, losing their final four games of the year to clinch their second straight losing season. This marks the first time Denver has endured back-to-back losing campaigns since 1972.

The Broncos have not made the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl during the 2015-16 campaign, which, at the time, capped a streak of five consecutive postseason appearances.
