The Denver Broncos need to address the cornerback position this offseason, and they have done so on the first day of free agency. As Vic Fangio continues to put together a defense to his liking, the team has agreed to terms with Ronald Darby, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
In hopes to improve their secondary, the Broncos are giving Darby a three-year deal that is worth $30 million. The veteran cornerback is also receiving $19.5 million in guarantees, netting him a decent payday this offseason.

Ronald Darby, who began his career as a second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills, made a name for himself—for better or worse—during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2017 to 2019. While he failed to show consistency with the Eagles, Darby inked a one-year, prove-it deal that was worth only $3 million with the Washington Football Team in 2020.
In his lone year in the nation's capital, Darby accounted for 55 combined tackles, 16 pass breakups and a fumble recovery. The Broncos are hoping that Darby can inject some life into their new-look secondary that has lost Chris Harris Jr. and A.J. Bouye in back-to-back seasons.
Fangio is attempting to build a defense that is solid in the secondary and has a tantalizing pass-rushing unit led by Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. However, the Broncos have yet to pick up Miller's team option this offseason, which leaves his future with the franchise uncertain.
The signing of Darby goes to show that new general manager, George Paton, is willing to spend money to fill voids on the roster. Despite adding Darby to kick off free agency, don't be surprised to see the Broncos target a cornerback with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft still.
