According to a Sunday afternoon report from Mike Klis of 9 News in Denver, the Denver Broncos would not have selected former Duke Blue Devils quarterback Daniel Jones in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft if given the opportunity.
With the New York Giants infamously selecting the former Duke signal caller at No. 6 overall, Jones almost immediately came off the board on Thursday evening.
“It was NOT the Broncos,” writes Klis. “They were not taking any QB at 10. And Drew Lock was their No 1 QB on board, not Jones. There was some talk of trading back into late first round for Lock. But no QB at 10. Sorry Mr. Gettleman, Broncos can’t bail ya out on this one.”
With the Broncos ultimately selecting former Missouri Tigers quarterback Drew Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Denver now has quite the quarterback tandem ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. It is also worth noting that the Broncos previously acquired veteran quarterback Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens to kick off the team's offseason. In order to make room for Flacco, the Broncos also traded away current Washington Redskins quarterback Case Keenum.
On the other hand, the Giants now have a quarterback tandem of their own — though it is one that has not received nearly as much acclaim as the duo that the Broncos house at the moment. In East Rutherford, the aforementioned Jones will serve as the backup to veteran quarterback Eli Manning, who is seemingly past his prime at this point in his career.
