Denver Broncos general manager John Elway says that former head coach Mike Shanahan is currently not a candidate for the team's coaching vacancy.
Vance Joseph was fired as Denver head coach on Monday after two seasons with the franchise, and the move didn't come as a surprise given the Broncos' slide late in the season.
After a 6-6 start, the team lost its final four games, which made Joseph's seat about as hot as it gets.
He went just 11-21 overall during his tenure, and Elway and company are hoping to find a replacement that can get Denver back in the Super Bowl picture sooner rather than later.
And if that's the goal, it's no shock that speculation has already begun as to Shanahan possibly being a candidate.
However, Elway doesn't see that as the case right now, according to Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post.
Elway says Mike Shanahan not a candidate "at this point in time."

Shanahan has not coached in the league since 2013, where he was fired by the Washington Redskins after four seasons as head coach.
Of course, prior to that run, he had plenty of success during his run with the Broncos. He led Denver to back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 1997 and 1998, with Elway leading the way under center.
Bringing that connection back may make sense from a nostalgia perspective, but again, it's worth noting that Shanahan hasn't been on the sidelines in five years.
That may lead the Broncos to turn their attention to current head coaches that have a similar pedigree, with Elway reportedly interested in finding a way to bring in Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
No matter who gets the job, it's obvious that the expectations will be very high right from the start.
