Free agent safety T.J. Ward has endured a bit of a rough stretch as of late. Fortunately, there is a silver lining amidst all his recent struggles.
Ward had been facing allegations of felony marijuana possession and a misdemeanor paraphernalia possession. However, according to JoeBucsFan.com, all charges have been dropped:
Article Continues BelowOn Thursday, the state dropped both charges against Ward, per Hillsborough County clerk records. It also tossed the charge of felony marijuana possession against Ciera Woody, the co-defendant and Ward’s girlfriend last year.
Needless to say, the news is a sigh of relief for Ward. His troubles off the field have been indicative of his on-field performance. He can now get back to focusing on a potential comeback this season.
Ward had played an integral role as a member of the Denver Broncos' “No Fly Zone” during their championship run in Super Bowl 50. However, he was eventually cut prior to the 2017 NFL season and subsequently signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ward had a tough time mirroring his success in Denver. He finished the season with just 43 tackles while starting in just four of the 12 games he played in.
As a result, it remains to be seen whether or not teams have expressed any interest in the former two-time Pro Bowler. Despite the recent allegations, Ward will not face any disciplinary action from the NFL. Although it may better his chances in free agency, he will have much more convincing to do for teams if he wants to get signed this offseason.
