Denver Broncos standout Von Miller wants to get back to playing football, but he wants to do whatever is safest, even if that means playing in empty stadiums. Miller opened up in the first interview since being diagnosed with COVID-19 to Mike Klis of 9News. In it, he admits this isn't something they can rush.
“Whatever’s safe. That would always be my first precaution to do whatever’s safe. Whatever we have to do to get things back to normal that’s what we should do. We shouldn’t move too fast. We should do whatever’s safe.”
It looks more and more likely that empty stadiums will be the new normal for all sports — at least for a while. Some players said early in the pandemic that they didn't want to play if there were no fans in the stadium, but as more information comes out, more seem accepting of it being the new norm. The Broncos talent has his own thoughts, obviously.
Von Miller is the second NFL player to have a confirmed case of COVID-19 — an even bigger concern for him, as he deals with asthma. The Broncos superstar said his girlfriend told him his cough didn't sound normal, causing concern. Miller first tried to use a nebulizer ,which he uses to help with his asthma, but that didn't work like it usually does.
“It wasn’t working how I thought it would,” the Broncos star said, via 9News. “My assistant said let’s go get tested. So I got tested, that was two days ago. I started to feel like normal yesterday and then this morning [team doctor Steve Geraghty] called me and told me [I had tested positive].”
Hopefully, Miller will make a full recovery. After that, get back to playing in a stadium soon, even if there are no fans in attendance
