Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller recently contracted the novel coronavirus, becoming the second NFL player to test positive after Los Angeles Rams center Brian Allen.
Miller detailed how he first found out about his diagnosis, a story that started with a simple nighttime cough:
“I’ve just been here in the crib, and I started to get a little cough,” Von Miller told Mike Klis of 9News. “You know I have asthma, and I started getting a little cough a couple days ago. My girlfriend, she told me [that while] I was asleep, she said my cough it didn’t sound normal.”
Miller used his nebulizer as usual, which he inhales for asthma before taking on any sporting or strenuous activity, but it didn't do the trick.
“I got tested, that was two days ago,” said Miller. “I started to feel like normal yesterday and then this morning Dr. [Steve] Geraghty called me and told me.”
The Broncos fierce linebacker is the third case in the NFL after New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and Allen, who was diagnosed with the virus earlier on Thursday.
“It’s crazy,” said Von Miller. “I have to be quarantined here at the house. There’s not really any medicine or anything like that. Dr. Geraghty told me if my breathing changed … Honestly, I’m still new to this. This is like an hour. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I tell you what, I’m in good spirits. I’m still Von. I’m not feeling sick or hurting or anything like that.”
Luckily for the Broncos superstar, sports are at a standstill and there's no reason to rush himself back to good health just yet. The NFL and most sporting leagues are prioritizing the health of their players and fans before resuming play once they're allowed to do so.
