The 2019 NFL campaign appears to be a lost one for the Denver Broncos, as they are just 2-6 and are showing no signs of even resembling a playoff team.

Now, their starting quarterback in Joe Flacco is hurt, opening the door for Brandon Allen to step in and show the club what he has.

Allen is not viewed as the Broncos' signal-caller of the future (that title goes to rookie Drew Lock), but Denver is still hoping he can step in and provide the club with a lift, much like Gardner Minshew in Jacksonville.

“Quarterbacks break out every year, because it’s the National Football League,” said Broncos pass rusher Von Miller, according to Kyle Newman of The Denver Post. “Everybody here has talent, it doesn’t matter the string, and everybody’s been ‘the man’ at some point. They just have to harness that energy. Gardner Minshew, no one knew he was going to have the type of year he’s having right now, but he got a chance and he took advantage of it. I’m hoping for some of the same magic to happen with Brandon.”

It should be noted that the circumstances between Allen and Minshew are very different.

No, Allen has never played in an NFL football game, but he has been a part of the league since being drafted by the Jaguars (ironically enough) back in 2016. He is also four years older than the 23-year-old Minshew, who is a true rookie.

Still, it's good to see that Miller has confidence in Allen, and perhaps Allen will end up surprising us when the Broncos take on the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
