Apparently, the Denver Broncos were not as interested in quarterback Kirk Cousins as most people were led to believe. Considering how strongly the Broncos were linked with the free-agent QB, the following report is a bit shocking.
According to Nicki Jhabvala, by way of the mean streets of Twitter, Denver had its eye on signing Case Keenum all along. Moreover, she's heard that the Broncos didn't even bother to hurl an offer toward Cousins' general direction for that matter.
Case Keenum was the Broncos' guy. Not Kirk Cousins. Broncos felt Keenum was a better fit in many areas. Was told they did not offer Cousins.

This will likely come as a shock to many, as most expected John Elway to eye Cousins to fill their big need at the position. The Broncos were blighted by poor quarterback play last season, with Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch all failing to impress.
Article Continues BelowWhile not all are sold on the idea of Kirk Cousins being a franchise quarterback, most experts admit that he's a far better option behind center than a guy like Keenum. Even Broncos players, specifically Von Miller, openly campaigned for Cousins to come to Denver this offseason. As it turns out, their front office just didn't feel the same way about him.
The fact that the Broncos didn't think highly enough of Cousins as a realistic option that they didn't even offer him a contract is particularly surprising. It also speaks to just how impressed they apparently were with Keenum that they pulled the trigger on a deal so quickly.
Keenum must now go out and prove Elway and the front office right in their evaluation of him as being the better fit for the Broncos. It should be noted that Keenum thrived in a similar situation in Minnesota, where he had an elite defense and a couple of reliable receivers. If he does well again, he would go a long way in justifying Denver's decision to basically snub Cousins in free agency.
