The Denver Broncos shook the NFL landscape when they traded for Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson in a blockbuster deal. Wilson, who was rumored to be seeking at least the chance to explore what was out there for him in the league besides Seattle, got even more than what he wanted. Shocking new details emerged revealing Wilson's- and the Commanders'- mindset ahead of the trade from the Seahawks. The Pro Bowl quarterback is rumored to have picked the Broncos over the Washington Commanders despite a massive trade offer from Washington, as reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Washington Post reporter Nicki Jhabvala.
SO @RapSheet says Russ chose Denver over Washington. AFC West has Mahomes, Herbert and Carr. And Russ chose to go there. https://t.co/RRMOCzMpaU

As Rapoport notes, Russell Wilson had a no-trade clause in his contract with the Seahawks, so in order for any deal to happen, Wilson himself had to be on board with the destination. That means that the star quarterback wanted to be in Denver with the Broncos more than he wanted to be in Washington with the Commanders.
While the strength of the AFC West is an obvious reason why someone like Wilson would want to avoid the division altogether, the strength of the Broncos team certainly makes them a more attractive place to play than the Commanders. But that's not the only reason the Pro Bowler ended up in Denver.
There's also the fact that the Seahawks were reportedly reluctant to trade Wilson within their own conference, despite a massive offer from the Commanders. Per Jhabvala, Washington offered draft picks from 2022, 2023 and 2024 in an effort to acquire Wilson.
However, their efforts fell just short, due to both Wilson's, and the Seahawks' desires. Now, the Commanders will have to go back to the drawing board when it comes to their quarterback plans.
