The Denver Broncos were hoping to make the playoffs this year under first-year head coach Vic Fangio, but injuries and poor quarterback play derailed that hope. Even though it was a disappointing season, there were some positives to be taken away that can be built upon.

Let's break down the five biggest takeaways from the Broncos' 2019 season.

5. The Broncos need to work on closing out games

The Broncos probably still wouldn't have been a playoff team, but there were a few games they failed to close out that they probably should have.

The Broncos went into halftime up 20-0 against the Minnesota Vikings and still found a way to lose. They tried to sit on the lead instead of playing aggressively in the second half and it cost them. This offseason, the Broncos need to focus on how they close out games so this type of situation doesn't happen again.

4. Vic Fangio looks like the real deal

Even though it's been a disappointing year, Vic Fangio looks like he can be a good head coach for many years in Denver. The players clearly respect him, and he has done a good job with the defense.

He also will continue to get more players around him that fit his system and the next couple of years should only be better.

3. The Broncos need Von Miller long-term

Von Miller is having another big season with the Broncos and he has made it clear that he wants to stay long-term in Denver.

“I don't like the way some of it was portrayed. I don't want to leave. At all. This is my identity, playing for Broncos. I have no Plan B. That's why it hurts so much to lose,” Miller said via thedenverchannel.com.

If the team did decide to move on from him this summer, it would be a big mistake. Fangio is only going to make Miller better and that is a scary thought. Keep a close eye on Miller next season because he is going to be even better.

2. Phillip Lindsay is one of the better running backs in the league

Phillip Lindsay is a star and had another great season even though he split carries with Royce Freeman. Heading into Week 17, Lindsay has rushed 206 times for 958 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Broncos need to enjoy their time with him while he is on a cheap contract, because he is going to be in line for a big payday when he negotiates his second deal.

1. The Broncos might have found their quarterback of the future

Since Peyton Manning retired, the Broncos have swung and missed with countless quarterbacks. It's still early, but it looks like the team might have finally hit on one with Drew Lock. His stats don't jump off the page, but he takes good care of the ball and he has shown flashes of being a franchise quarterback.

There is still a long way to go before he can be considered the savior of the franchise, but he has given the Broncos a lot of hope.
