It was a year to remember for the Philadelphia Eagles and their fans. Since capturing their first championship with a win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, some are choosing to commemorate it in spectacular fashion.
Among those fans is 38-year-old schoolteacher Teddy Munz. According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, Munz had an image of Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy tattooed on his left calf:
I always thought sports tattoos were cheesy,” said Munz, a die-hard Eagles fan who teaches English. “But this one is cool. It's the guy who started the season as the backup quarterback.”
Munz is certainly no stranger to the ink. However, it was a bit surprising to see he had gone all out in honor of the job Foles did for the city of Philadelphia.
Munz said the idea started when starting quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a season-ending knee injury. In an attempt to lift the spirits of Eagles fans, friends suggested he prove his faith by placing a wager. Over a month and $400 later, Munz is now the canvas of one of the more notable tattoos in recent sports history.
He is not the only one to get inked up in honor of the momentous occasion. Another fan also got the play diagram of the “Philly Special”, the play in which the Eagles scored on a trick pass to Foles before halftime. Needless to say, this may not be the end of some questionable ink jobs going on in Philadelphia.
