The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that tight end Zach Ertz has received some really good news, as he is officially out of the concussion protocol.
This is obviously big news, as the Eagles could clearly use the veteran tight end as the team makes its final push to earn a bye come the playoffs.
How important is Zach Ertz to the Eagles and quarterback Carson Wentz? The proof is in the pudding, as Ertz leads the entire team with 57 catches while being targeted more often than anyone other than wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. He is actually tied with Jeffery and Nelson Agholor for the team lead with seven touchdown catches.
Wentz does a great job of spreading the football between all his talented guys on the outside. Even with that being so, Ertz, who is much more than just a safety-net for the second-year quarterback, provides some much needed consistency with routes ran where the defensive backs are roaming around to take some kill shots.
Ertz left last Sunday night’s game against the Seahawks in the third quarter after hitting his head on the turf and was placed in the protocol after being diagnosed with a concussion. Luckily, a few days later, and everything is back to normal.
