In the last few weeks, the New York Giants have dealt with the looming cloud around star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.'s long-term future with the franchise. There has been much uncertainty surrounding what the front office will do with him this offseason centered around his contract situation that has brought trade rumors in the mix.
Throughout this process, new head coach Pat Shurmur has remained quite complimentary of the Pro Bowler. With Beckham Jr. in attendance at the facility during the first day of the team organized workouts, Shurmur stayed on course by voicing much praise toward the 25-year-old's presence.
Coach Shurmur: I really believe Odell is a professional. He wants to be great. He understands the importance of the offseason. He's a competitive guy…I'm glad he's here today. #NYGiants

There may be much uncertainty about what will lie ahead of Beckham Jr. with the Giants this season, but Shurmur looks to have a strong desire to keep him in the fold. He is one of the league's elite players at his position that has game-changing ability in the passing game. He is expected to be a major factor in Shurmur's offensive game plan that he can depend on to be a leading factor.
It has just been a matter of the Giants determining of whether Beckham Jr. is worth the risk of keeping aboard for the long haul with these continued behavioral issues that arise around him. This would take the team being comfortable with potentially handing him a deal that could make him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league that may feature a significant amount of guaranteed money.
Beckham Jr. certainly has shown to have the talent that deserves that kind of deal, but his lack of maturity has been concerning for the organization. For the time being, it appears that there is an interest from the Giants to work out a new deal with him at some point this offseason. If the team does keep him aboard, his new head coach looks more than willing to make him a big part of the offense next season and possibly well beyond that.
