The Green Bay Packers have ushered in some significant changes this offseason. Fortunately, they can take solace in the fact that they have one of the best wideouts in the league in Davante Adams.
Adams is coming off a career year in Green Bay despite all their struggles during the 2018 campaign. According to Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, he is slated as the sixth-best wideout in the league going into the 2019 NFL season:
PFF graded him as the No. 8 wideout a season ago and he did it on a Packers team lacking of other pass-catching options. We're not joking: the second-leading receiver on this squad was 31-year-old tight end Jimmy Graham who had 55 receptions — 56 fewer than Adams. It'll be interesting to see how Adams — and, more importantly, Aaron Rodgers — adapts to Matt LaFleur's new offense.
There is no question that like most receivers, Adams is striving to at least be considered in the top-5. Regardless, his ranking is still indicative of the kind of respect he has drawn moving forward after enjoying one of the best seasons for a wideout in Packers history by hauling in 111 receptions for 1,386 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Checking in ahead of Adams were the likes of Antonio Brown, Michael Thomas, and Julio Jones. Meanwhile, Odell Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins rounded out the list. It is safe to say that a case can be made for each of these wideouts in terms of their ranking.
Adams will be looking to solidify his status as an elite receiver once again in this new-look Packers' offense. Despite all the changes, he will be relied on heavily as quarterback Aaron Rodgers' most trusted option in the passing game. The onus will be on head coach Matt LaFleur and the other wideouts to do their part in helping lead a potential resurgence in 2019.
