Not many front-office executives in the NFL have shared individual statements or messages on social injustices. On the other hand, Mark Murphy — the CEO of the publicly-owned Green Bay Packerssent a message to all NFL owners to ‘make changes’.

“I also call on NFL owners. They are in powerful, privileged positions, and can make a huge difference, and obviously have close relations with everybody in all their organizations. It’s time to make changes.”

The Packers, going back to the tragic death of George Floyd in police custody, have been vocal about their support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Back in June, players on Green Bay’s roster, including Aaron Rodgers, posted a video of them calling for change.

In addition to that, the Packers were one of the handful of teams that postponed their practice on Thursday in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake. Blake was a black man that was shot seven times in the back and was paralyzed from the waist down. Following their decision to postpone practice, Murphy says the organization isn’t going to shy away from speaking out against racism.

“As an organization, we will continue to find ways to support the Black community, because Black lives matter. Fighting racism is not an issue the Packers will shy away from.”

There have been NFL franchises to release joint statements saying they want to be part of the change. However, Murphy is taking it a step further and requesting action from his fellow NFL executives.
