The Green Bay Packers have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons and while the talent is there, something was clearly off this past season. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was hurt in 2017, but 2018 just seemed off altogether. Former head coach Mike McCarthy was fired and now the team is doing everything they can to get back on track ahead of the 2019 season.

The truth may be starting to surface as the marriage between McCarthy and Rodgers fell apart big time and last season was a clear indication of that based on what a former Packers teammate has to say.

From Tyler Dunne of Bleacher Report:

“His No. 1 job, and Mike always missed this point, is to manage Aaron,” the former teammate says. “That's your driver. That's your engine. Aaron's your engine for the whole team. Whether you want to or don't want to, you have to make sure that guy's happy. At the end of the day—and it doesn't sound like a fun job—if he's happy, you're winning.

“Your job isn't to go out there and throw and catch passes. Your job is to manage people.”

Rodgers is, in fact, the key to success and although he has been with the team for over a decade, the last two seasons have been uncharacteristically dysfunctional for the team as a whole.

Now that Rodgers has a new head coach, who will surely be addressing his quarterback's needs, it's highly possible the team could get back on track in 2019.

Head coach Matt LaFleur likely already has a very good understanding of what it will take for the team to run successfully so it's going to be interesting to see how things play out.
