A bit of bad news for now-former Green Bay Packers pass rusher Nick Perry, as the word has come out that he's now been released.
The Packers have told former first-round pick Nick Perry that he will be released, a source told ESPN.

Perry — who was once a first-round draft pick — was released after the team completed the signings of much younger and effective linebackers Za'Darius Smith from Baltimore and Preston Smith from Washington.
This resulted in a bit of a loss for Perry, because had he stayed on with the Packers, he would have earned a $4.8 million roster bonus.
But a big part of the reason why Nick Perry is no longer with the team is because he was on injured reserve for most of the season. He missed the last seven games of the 2018 season after injuring his knee, and had just 1.5 sacks in 2018.
This, obviously, could force Perry's value down a bit on the open market.
Article Continues BelowWhile this is bad news for Perry, it's good news for the rest of the team, who now have some money freed up to sign other players.
“The move gives the Packers a $3.6 million salary cap gain to use toward the signings of Preston and Za'Darius Smith and the addition of safety Adrian Amos and offensive lineman Billy Turner.”
It's unclear what teams might have interest in signing Perry at this point in time. That being said, he is a quality pass rusher when he is healthy and there are quite a few teams that need pass rushing help. Perry shouldn't have too hard of a time finding a new team.
