The modern-era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2020 will be announced on Saturday night and it appears one of the finalists already knows he wasn't chosen. Ahead of the NFL Honors ceremony, LeRoy Butler of the Green Bay Packers revealed his Hall of Fame fate.
Butler actually became a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the first time despite retiring in 2001. The four-time Pro Bowl safety took to Twitter to inform his fans that he didn't receive a knock on his hotel room door from David Baker; the president of the Hall of Fame.
Of course, Butler spent all 12 seasons of his career with the Packers. Altogether, Butler amassed 889 tackles, 38 interceptions, and 13 forced fumbles. Additionally, Butler was named an All-Pro four times in his career.
Article Continues BelowAbove all, Butler was able to help Green Bay end their 28-year Super Bowl drought in 1996. Even though he has a Super Bowl ring, the committee didn't see it as enough to induct him into the Hall of Fame just yet.
The other safeties that were able to become finalists this year were John Lynch, Troy Polamalu, and Steve Atwater. Therefore, it was going to be tough for Butler to be chosen among a loaded safety class in 2020.
The Hall of Fame committee voted on Saturday morning to decide the upcoming class of Hall of Famers. But until the announcement is made, players tend to keep the news to themselves. However, Butler made it a bit easier for fans to guess who will be named to Canton on Saturday night.
