The Houston Texans' busy offseason continues. On Tuesday, the Texans and Nico Collins agreed to a new contract extension, good for three years and worth $24 million per season, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
“The Houston Texans agreed to a three-year contract extension with wide receiver Nico Collins that will pay him $24 million per year, league sources said.”
Collins gets a massive payday with north of $20 million a year as he emerged as a top option for CJ Stroud in the passing game.
Adam Schefter gave some more details on the contract front:
‘Compensation update: Texans and WR Nico Collins agreed to a three-year, $72.75 million extension with a max value of $75 million that includes $52 million guaranteed. The deal was negotiated and confirmed by Drew Rosenhaus, Ryan Matha and Jason Rosenhaus.'
In Collins' first season catching passes from Stroud, he had 91 receptions for 1,461 yards and nine scores, so this is a well-deserved payday for Collins and locks up a top pass-catcher for years to come.
As a result, he became the fourth player in franchise history to record 1,000 yards: Andre Johnson, Brandin Cooks, and DeAndre Hopkins are the others.
The situation with Collins was always an interesting one, but Texans GM Nick Caserio had some interesting comments that brought forth an excited response from Collins himself: “It means a lot,” Collins said when asked about Caserio viewing him as an extension candidate. “That’s everybody’s dream. To hear that from Nick, man, it means a lot. For me, I just got to continue to keep my head down. Continue to work on my game, continue to improve every day and continue to chase my end goal.”
But, now the two sides have gotten it done and agreed to give Collins a massive payday.
Texans' busy offseason continues with Nico Collins' extension

For a team on the rise, the Texans have been extremely active this offseason. Tank Dell is recovering from a gunshot wound, and the Texans also landing star wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a massive blockbuster trade. So, the Houston WR room is arguably one of the best in the entire NFL.
They also brought in Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon, so DeMeco Ryans and company are adding quality veterans to a mixture of up-and-coming young players as they try and make a trip back to the playoffs. They also addressed the offensive line in free agency and the NFL Draft, so there are hefty expectations for the Texans with Stroud playing quarterback and players such as Diggs and Mixon coming in.
