Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans still think about the team's heartbreaking loss in last year's AFC Divisional Round game versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Nearly eight months since the game took place, Watson spoke out on Houston's '24-0′ playoff loss to the Chiefs ahead of their Week 1 rematch against them.

“It's always in the back of my mind, but it's something that I didn't dwell on,” Watson said, via the team's official site. “I didn't get upset about it or constantly think about it all the time. It's definitely a motivational factor, but what I wanted to work on this offseason was to get my craft down and continue to be ready for big time moments like that and figure out what happened for that situation to change.”

In the Wild Card round, the Texans were able to defeat the Buffalo Bills in overtime. After their narrow victory over the Bills, Houston would square off with the Chiefs in the second round.

To begin the game, Watson and the Texans got off to a fast start, scoring the first 24 points of the game. It seemed as if Watson was going to lead Houston to the AFC Championship game and a chance to make the Super Bowl. However, Patrick Mahomes happened.

In the blink of an eye, the Chiefs erased the 24-point deficit in the first half, with Mahomes tossing four touchdowns in the second quarter. Kansas City would never look back as they would win the game by the score of 51-31. Of course, the Chiefs would proceed to win the Super Bowl in February.

The first game of the 2020 season will pit the Texans and Chiefs against one another in a much-anticipated matchup. While Watson is focused on defeating Kansas City next Thursday, he still has last season's harrowing defeat ingrained in his mind.
