An elite teammate of Deshaun Watson on the Houston Texans, J.J. Watt, shared the unknowns that still exist for NFL players ahead of the 2020 season. While the league expects the Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs to begin training camps on Monday, Watson warned the NFL about not listening to health experts.
It is disheartening to hear the NFL is unwilling to follow the recommendations of their own experts regarding player health & safety. If we want to have a FULL season the NFL needs to listen to their experts! #WeWantToPlay @NFL

Nearly two weeks ago, the NFLPA warned the NFL that the league could be putting the regular season at risk for the Texans and everyone else. Both sides formed a joint committee that was comprised of doctors and trainers to discuss the best options amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The joint committee came up with multiple ideas that they extended to the NFL. One idea included the NFL eliminating the preseason and extending training camps for the Texans and the other 31 teams. However, the league has continued to remain adamant about conducting a preseason in some type of capacity.
Article Continues BelowWhile players around the league, including those with the Texans, are interested in playing in 2020, the NFL hasn't done a formidable job at communicating the details of the upcoming season. Somehow, even after having months to discuss options, the players haven't even been told if there will be daily testing for COVID-19.
In addition to that, it remains unclear what would transpire if a player (for the Texans or any other team) opted-out of the 2020 season. The NFLPA has been attempting to find the answer to how opting-out will affect player contracts.
With that in mind, the league has seemingly failed at putting player safety as the No. 1 priority this offseason. As a result, the NFL could put the 2020 season in jeopardy due to their own avoidable shortcomings. Hopefully, the NFL begins taking the advice of players on the Texans and the other 31 teams in the near future, if a season is going to happen.
