The Houston Texans selected Kahale Warring with their third-round draft pick in April and even though he has only been on the team for a couple of months, he has already turned many heads.
Coming into the draft, Warring was considered a bit of a project after playing only one year of high school football, and being a walk-on at San Diego State. Just a couple of months in, the expectations seem to be rising with the praise he is getting.
“He brings a lot,” Texans tight ends coach Will Lawing told the Houston Chronicle. “He’s very athletic and learning a lot. New to the game of football, but I really like what I see from him so far. He’s doing a good job.”
Warring knows that he still has a lot to learn, but said he has been studying a lot of the tight ends in the league and has been trying to pick up on the little things that they do.
“I study tight ends,” said Warring, who emulates Zach Ertz and Jimmy Graham. “I watch every single one that I hear about and I study and I see what they do well and I try to do the things that they do well. That’s something that helps me in my game.”
Warring still has a lot of work to do and is probably still a bit of a project, but it seems things are heading in the right direction for him to have success early on in his career.
