One of the more interesting storylines this offseason surrounding the Indianapolis Colts will be what they do with Jacoby Brissett. Brissett is still under contract for the next couple of seasons, but the Colts don't owe him anymore guaranteed money. In turn, they could move on from him with little repercussions.
Let's breakdown the three most important questions that Brissett needs to answer.
3. Was the knee injury really the reason for the struggles?
Brissett and the Colts tried to downplay the MCL Sprain as the reason he struggled late in the season. Even though that's what Brissett said, it wouldn't be shocking if that was the reason for his iffy play. If that was the reason for the reversal of fortune, it would make a lot more sense why his game went downhill.
If it really wasn't the injury, there are going to be some major changes that need to happen this offseason to make sure there isn't a repeat.
2. Will Brissett start trusting other Colts receivers?
Article Continues BelowIt was clear early in the season that Brissett had a lot of faith in T.Y. Hilton, but outside of him there wasn't a whole lot of trust. Brissett would only throw to open receivers; though he even then sometimes wouldn't.
If he is the Colts quarterback going forward, he needs to spend a lot of time with the receivers this offseason to get on the same page.
1. How can Brissett get better at reading defenses
Brissett struggled to read defenses, especially when opposing teams would throw a wrinkle at him. He needs to spend a lot of time looking at his own film to see all the wide receivers he missed. It was clear he also didn't trust his deep ball, which allowed defenses to play closer to the line of scrimmage.
Brissett still has all the tools to be a very good quarterback in the league. However, there are small things he needs to work on. Hopefully, the Colts will give him one more year to work on these things, because it might just pay off with a Super Bowl victory.
