Football is not an easy game on the body. This game is extremely physical and a lot of the time results in short-lived careers on the NFL level. Kicker Adam Vinatieri, however, is the exception.
Although his position doesn't take a lot of pounding on the football field, it's not easy to continue to play at a high level in any sports beyond the age of 40 let alone what Vinatieri has been able to do at 45. The longtime Indianapolis Colts kicker will turn 46 in December and even though most players would be long retired, he's got no intention of walking away from the game he loves, via Colts.com writer Andrew Walker.

“I guess I’ll take these one year at a time and see where it ends up. I would anticipate if I can stay healthy and be productive, I can anticipate catching up to Morten [Andersen] midseason or thereabout, and I guess at the end of the year I’d be 46,” Vinatieri continued. “I’m not putting anything out of reach. I’m not looking and saying, ‘No way,’ or ‘For sure.’ But again, like I said, I just want to help our team be as productive as possible this year, and if everything works out well, hopefully we’ll be having this conversation again next year.”
As long as Vinatieri continues to produce at a high level for the Colts, it's not all that surprising that he'd want to extend his career, especially with the new regime in Indianapolis.
New head coach Frank Reich and company probably won't make the team instant title contenders next season, but it does improve the outlook for the future along with the return of star quarterback Andrew Luck.
Vinatieri will be heading into his 23rd season in the NFL with three All-Pro selections to his credit to go along with four Super Bowl titles and the distinction as one of the best kickers in NFL history.
