Chester Rogers played a very big role for the Indianapolis Colts last year, but things have changed. The Colts made upgrading their receiving corps beyond T.Y. Hilton a priority, and brought in several new guys this offseason. They signed Devin Funchess to a large contract in free agency, and drafted Parris Campbell in the second round of April's draft.

Last year, the Colts rotated a series of lesser-known players as the second option behind Hilton, including Rogers. But according to recent reporting, Rogers might not even make the team out of training camp. Rogers' status on the roster is “very, very tenuous,” according to Stephen Holder of The Athletic.

Holder writes that Funchess, Hilton, Campbell, and Deon Cain are all locks to make the roster, and that the Colts might only keep five wideouts. That would leave Rogers and a slew of others battling it out for just one spot.

If that's the case, Rogers clearly isn't going down without a fight, as Holder writes he was arguably “the best player on the field during Tuesday’s practice open to reporters.”

He notes that “whether it was his diving sideline catch or his leaping, fingertip grab later in the workout, Rogers’ presence was felt throughout.” Rogers played over 50 percent of the offensive snaps last year, so he would have a lot more experience than your typical late training camp cut.

If he were to hit the open market, he'd probably not be out of work very long. In 16 games and 10 starts last year, the 2016 undrafted free agent had 53 catches for 485 yards and two touchdowns. If he does make Indy's roster, it seems like his role will at the very least be greatly reduced.
