After being spurned by Josh McDaniels, the Indianapolis Colts turned to Frank Reich and gave the 56-year-old his very first opportunity to become an NFL head coach.

Reich’s former head coach, Buffalo Bills great Marv Levy, is happy his old player is finally going to get his shot as a head coach. He believes Reich is the right man for the job in Indianapolis because of his amazing ability to teach and prepare.

“I was pulling very hard for him to get the job,” Levy said per Mike Wells of ESPN. “This guy is not only a great teacher and coach, he’s such a great guy that he’ll work so well with everybody in the organization. He’s a high-character individual. He will study like you can’t believe and his preparation will be incredible. I’m thrilled that he is there.”

Reich played for Levy and the Bills from 1985-1994. He backed up legendary quarterback Jim Kelly as they made their incredible four-straight trips to the Super Bowl from 1990-1993.

It took a while for Reich to get into coaching once his playing career was done, but Levy saw the potential he had to be a head coach with how well he was able to teach a young Peyton Manning in Indianapolis. The legendary quarterback agreed with that sentiment.

Reich will have his work cut out for him in Indianapolis as the Colts struggled on both sides of the ball last season. They particularly had a rough time offensively without quarterback Andrew Luck. There’s a chance Reich can help tap further into Luck’s potential, but he’ll need his talented QB healthy and finally able to play after missing the entire 2017 season following shoulder surgery.
