The Indianapolis Colts have announced that they will be inducting Robert Mathis, the team's all-time sack leader, into their Ring of Honor on November 22.

The team will be hosting the Green Bay Packers at Lucas Oil Stadium. Mathis played 14 seasons with the Colts after being selected in the fifth round of the 2003 NFL draft. In 192 career games with the Colts, he racked up 123 sacks, 52 forced fumbles, and 17 fumble recoveries. He was also a key part in the Colts winning Super Bowl XLI over the Chicago Bears.

Mathis was always a headache for opposing teams, oftentimes drawing double teams to try and take him away. Jim Irsay, Colts owner and CEO, had this to say about Mathis' induction on the team's official website:

“From a fifth-round pick from a small college to one of the most effective and feared defensive players in the NFL, Robert Mathis was a centerpiece of the historic Colts teams of the last two decades … He was undersized and underrated, but he made up for it with a motor that wouldn't quit and a flawless technique that outmatched the most talented lineman in the league. And to watch him strip-sack the quarterback — which he did better and more than anyone in NFL history — was a thing of beauty. What's more, Robert has stayed connected to the Horseshoe and has helped guide and teach our next generation of players. We are so proud that his name and his Hall of Fame-worthy career will be celebrated and remembered in Indianapolis from this day forward.”

When Mathis is inducted in November, he will be the 17th player to go into the Colts' Ring of Honor. Some of the recent players to go in include Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne and Dwight Freeney. This is a great honor for Mathis, and one that is also deserving.
