The Indianapolis Colts' defense took a big step forward this past year, and they're looking to build on that momentum this offseason by adding new pieces. Ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Colts have met with Texas Tech linebacker Dakota Allen, according to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle.

If Allen's name sounds familiar, you may have heard of him from the Netflix series ‘Last Chance U.' Allen was one of the stars of that program, which documents a football team at a small community college in Mississippi. Allen originally went to Texas Tech out of high school and looked like a potential star as a redshirt freshman. But then he was arrested in connection with a robbery and ended up getting dismissed from the football team.

He transferred to the community college and ended up becoming a fan favorite on the Netflix show. It documented how hard he had worked to turn his life around, and all charges ended up getting dismissed. After one year in Mississippi, Texas Tech welcomed him back to the team, where he's spent the past two seasons.

Last month, Allen wrote an open letter to NFL general manager's who might be wary of drafting him based on his past. He was named first-team All-Big 12 this past season and was one of the best players on the Red Raiders' team. Allen is an inside linebacker who plays well in coverage, and he could be a good fit in Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus' scheme. It'd be great to see him get a shot in the pros after the journey he's been through.
