Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has said he will “absolutely” play in Week 1. Of course, he meant Week 1 of the regular season, but the plan is for him to play in Week 1 of preseason as well.
Per Herb Teope of NFL.com, Colts head coach Frank Reich told reporters that the team's plan is for Luck to play in their first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 9.
Reich didn’t specify how much Luck is going to play, but the simple fact of having Luck back on the field would be tremendous progress after all the time he’s missed due to shoulder surgery. If Luck does play, it’ll be his first appearance in any sort of game since Week 17 of the 2016 season.
Article Continues BelowColts GM Chris Ballard recently said Luck is “good to go” for training camp after he wasn’t placed on the physically unable to perform list. But while his progress to date has been promising, the Colts will continue to take caution with their star and give him planned days off during training camp.
Considering he’s only returned to throwing regulation footballs for over a month, Luck must have made some huge strides for the Colts to feel like he's finally ready to get back into an actual game so soon. That should be promising news for Colts fans who've been waiting over a year and a half for his return.
If he does manage to play in Week 1 against the Seahawks, an appearance in Week 1 of the regular season against Bengals suddenly looks like a real possibility.
