Indianapolis Colts defensive end Jabaal Sheard has been one of the more notable absences at training camp. It appears his unavailability could spill over into the 2019 NFL season.
According to Mike Chappell of FOX59, Sheard is slated to miss some time after undergoing surgery to address the swelling in his knee:
Colts Jabaal Sheard had procedure on knee that will kept him out undetermined time.
The Colts signed Sheard to a three-year deal prior to the 2017 campaign and he has since played an integral role in this defense. The 30-year-old has registered a combined 102 tackles and 11 sacks while starting all 32 games for Indianapolis over the last two seasons.

The team's unwillingness to designate a timetable for his return indicates that they may be taking a rather cautious approach with his recovery moving forward.
The Colts have managed to put together one of the most talented, young defensive groups in the league, however, there is no question that any potential time missed by Sheard would leave a notable void up front since this unit would also be without one of its most experienced leaders. Perhaps this is all the more reason for Indianapolis to ensure that he is ready to handle the grind of a deep playoff run.
Sheard's absence will make way for defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad to serve as his replacement for the time being.
