The 26-year-old Brissett has started under center for every Colts game this season. Originally, the fourth-year veteran was slated to back up Pro-Bowl quarterback Andrew Luck in 2019 until Luck suddenly retired, leading to Brissett to claim the QB1 spot. He has played admirably through nine weeks, too, leading Indy to an AFC South-leading 5-2 record.
With Brissett out, fellow former New England Patriots QB Brian Hoyer entered the game as his replacement. Hoyer, 34, promptly came in and threw a touchdown pass on the Colts' second play from scrimmage, an eleven-yard reception to tight end Jack Doyle, giving Indy a seven-point lead in the first half of the contest.
Article Continues BelowBrissett, who won a Super Bowl as a backup with the Patriots his rookie year, has had a very good season leading the Colts. He has thrown for over 1,600 yards in seven-plus games with a 64.8% completion rate, throwing fourteen touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Colts would be hard-pressed to lose another quarterback should Brissett's knee injury turn serious. Although they have an experienced signal-caller in Hoyer, Brissett has been the heart and soul of a team many pundits speculated would soon be out of any postseason race at the start of the season due to Luck's retirement.
It's worth keeping an eye on the Colts game this afternoon despite matching up with a Steelers team banged up too.
