The Indianapolis Colts haven't really gotten all that much positive press lately. It's not that they've done anything wrong, it's just the whole situation surrounding them.

If by some miracle you haven't heard yet, quarterback Andrew Luck's retirement was announced out of nowhere during their preseason Week 3 game.

That's left the team kind of scrambling to figure things out. Yes, Jacoby Brissett is obviously their starting quarterback now but who's his backup? More importantly, where does this leave the team?

Are they still Super Bowl contenders? Better yet, are they even playoff contenders anymore?

If you ask Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay those are pretty easy questions to answer. According to Andrew Walker of Colts.com, Irsay doesn't just think, he knows the Colts are better than they were last year.

That's telling for two reasons. One, he said this after Luck retired. It's not like this was a quote from a few weeks ago. Second, they went 10-6 last season and made the playoffs. People were considering them a threat to the New England Patriots.

Apparently, none of that has changed in the mind of Jim Irsay.

Obviously, the owner of a team is going to say this. However, it's not the craziest thing ever said. Yes, losing Luck is terrible – but they did improve substantially at multiple positions. They have better wide receivers and their running backs have more experience now. They also improved significantly at cornerback and have a more well-rounded defense with its leader (Darius Leonard) now having a full year of experience.

Losing Andrew Luck stings. It's something that's definitely going to hurt the team in more than one ways. He was a leader and a warrior and one of the best quarterbacks in football. However, football isn't a one-man sport. Jim Irsay believes they've done enough at every other position that the 2019 version of the Indianapolis Colts is still an improvement over the 2018 version.

Is this just an owner saying what he feels he has to say though? Or does he seriously believe it?

Either way, we'll get to see if the Indianapolis Colts can live up to his hype starting in barely a week.
