Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck shocked many a football fan when he announced his retirement from professional football. However, Colts owner Jim Irsay believes that his franchise quarterback may not call it quits on his career just yet.

Luck, who was the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, decided to hang up his cleats due to a long battle with his injuries. He has missed his team's training camp and preseason, and he believes that his body cannot take any more after years of fighting to keep himself healthy.

“All I feel is love for this game and love for my teammates,” he said during his recent press conference about his decision. “Physically it has taken its toll over the last four years, that's why I'm here – and the mental and emotional toll as well.”

Irsay told the Colts faithful that they shouldn't feel despair over Andrew Luck's retirement just yet, though.

“You know, I don't rule it out,” Irsay said. “Because as quickly as this thing sort of descended on us, and as mysterious as it was coming upon us, it could leave the same way.”

The former Stanford Cardinal was coming off one of his most impressive seasons to date. He had career-high numbers in completion rate (67.3%) and yards gained per game played (287.1). He also notched 39 touchdowns, his highest since 2014.

Colts fans and the rest of the NFL hope that Luck will find it in himself to continue playing the game he has loved for so long. With Irsay's statement, we can be sure that the team is also doing everything they can to convince their man to stay and play more football.
