Indianapolis Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez is set to undergo surgery as he is expected to have his cancerous tumor removed soon. The 26-year old revealed that doctors found the tumor before it was able to cause more damage and spread to the rest of his body, as per his Instagram post.

Sanchez has been a mainstay on the Colts squad ever since he was claimed and signed after he went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he immediately saw action as he beat out veteran punter Jeff Locke and eventually took over the reins since then.

Last season, he also signed a four-year contract that will extend his stay in Indianapolis through the 2023 season. He has also appeared in every game this season and has already kicked over 1464 yards on 31 punts through 11 outings.

Sanchez still punted for the Colts in their most recent encounter against the Tennessee Titans in Week 12 proceedings. However, the sickness already kept him from playing to a full extent which forced him to not handle his kickoff duties. Colts placekicker Rodrigo Blankenship eventually slotted in the position for the time being.

On the field, the Indianapolis-based squad struggled to find any rhythm on their offense as they were dominated by the Titans en route to a 45-26 lopsided loss. The defeat ended a previous two-game winning streak which dragged the Colts to a 7-4 record.

The Titans took over the pole position in the AFC South division with an 8-3 record, with the Colts closely trailing behind. The team is certainly hoping for Sanchez to have a successful operation and see a swift recovery moving forward.
