The Indianapolis Colts are hoping to re-establish a formidable passing attack with the return of quarterback Andrew Luck for the 2018 NFL season. That said, they will need one of their wideouts to step up as another viable option for Luck outside of T.Y. Hilton.

Fortunately, it appears head coach Frank Reich already has an idea of which player that may be. According to Andrew Walker of the team's official website, Reich says Hilton and wide receiver Ryan Grant are at the top of the pecking order:

“T.Y. and Ryan Grant have really separated themselves,” Reich said.

Offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni elaborated on Reich's comments regarding Grant's performance.

“Ryan has done what we ask guys to do on a consistent basis, and that’s just improve every single day — fight to improve every single day. And we just see that in Ryan,” Sirianni said. “Even if the ball’s not going to Ryan and maybe not everybody sees that — ‘Hey, why didn’t Ryan Grant catch more passes?’ — we see it on every single play. ‘Hey, man, look at how he’s running that route. Look how he’s releasing off the ball right there. Look at how he’s getting in and out of (breaks). Oh my goodness, did you see that big run? Ryan Grant was the one who came in and got him.’ And that’s what we’ve seen out of Ryan.”

It has been quite an eventful offseason for Grant. He is coming off a solid 2017 campaign after registering a career-high 45 receptions for 573 yards and four touchdowns with the Washington Redskins. As a result, he had struck a deal with the Baltimore Ravens before it subsequently voided by the team after they decided to go in a different direction. He ultimately signed with the Colts and has since started to make some serious waves.

There is no question that Hilton has established himself as a bonafide No. 1 option. He fell just 34 yards short of registering his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard campaign despite the absence of Luck. However, having another pair of capable hands to take advantage of the weaker coverage can be just as crucial at times. With Luck's return, it is vital that they provide him with as many safety nets as possible.
