The Indianapolis Colts joined the NFL's recent trade frenzy, sending quarterback Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders in a deal involving draft picks. The Colts' Wentz experiment lasted just one year, with their trade of the veteran quarterback signaling in the need for a new quarterback. According to the latest rumors via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Colts could be in the mix for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Colts' current starter on the depth chart following the Carson Wentz trade is backup Sam Ehlinger, who has yet to attempt a pass in the NFL. Needless to say, the Colts will be in the mix for a new starting quarterback, though it's certainly interesting that 49ers' quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's name is being floated around the franchise.
Article Continues BelowGaroppolo's career record and success in the playoffs would certainly make him a good fit in Indianapolis, given the way the Colts collapsed at the end of the season under Wentz' leadership.
Garoppolo would also be a fit in the Colts' run-first offense, which is very similarly constructed to the one run by the 49ers. The 49ers signal-caller underwent successful shoulder surgery and is expected to be ready for training camp, so there certainly won't be any health concerns that come with dealing for him.
Indianapolis, who could still be looking to win-now, make sense as a potential destination for Garoppolo after the Wentz trade.
