Jacoby Brissett came into the 2019 NFL season expecting to be the backup for at least one more season to Indianapolis Colts' franchise quarterback Andrew Luck. Unfortunately, just before the start of the regular season, things took a massive turn. Luck decided to retire and that left the keys to the franchise with Brissett.

It was an interesting year for Brissett in his first year as the franchise quarterback in Indianapolis. He started off strong, but the Colts ended up missing the playoffs and finished the year with a 7-9 record.

Fans have been split on what the Colts should do moving forward. Some think Brissett is the right guy for the job long-term, while others want the franchise to look for a young quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. Either way, Chris Ballard will have a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason.

On the season in 15 appearances, Brissett ended up completing 60.8 percent of his pass attempts for 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The numbers may not look impressive, but they weren't awful either. It was the kind of season that leaves a franchise wondering what to expect the next season.

At 27 years old, Brissett may simply need some more time to adjust to being a franchise quarterback. It isn't an easy task coming in as a backup and being thrust into the starting lineup just before the season.

All of that being said, let's run down a bit more of his season and then tack a final grade on his year.

Brissett has one thing to take note of, which is the fact that he suffered a knee injury that forced him to miss the team's loss against the Miami Dolphins. Many in the front office for the Colts believe that the knee injury is part of what made him struggle down the stretch of the season.

While he didn't throw for 20 touchdowns, he also didn't turn the football over much. Only throwing six interceptions is a big deal. Taking care of the football is one of the most important jobs for a quarterback.

Tack on the fact that Indianapolis had to play a good chunk of their games with T.Y. Hilton, along with missing Devin Funchess. Eric Ebron and Marlon Mack also missed time for the Colts.

Those things are not easy for a young franchise quarterback to overcome. All of the struggles the Colts had cannot be placed on the arm of Brissett.

Granted, there are a lot of ways that he needs to improve. The Colts should consider options this offseason, but keeping Brissett and giving him another season would be wise.
