The Jacksonville Jaguars will more than likely be in search of the team's quarterback of the future this offseason. With current Jacksonville signal-caller Blake Bortles continuing to struggle mightily, the Jaguars have already been linked to a multitude of different options with the 2019 campaign looming.
According to Mike DiRocco of ESPN, the Jaguars could find such a player come April during the 2019 NFL Draft.
“The Jaguars trade up to land their top quarterback in the draft,” writes DiRocco. “It would be out of character for the Jaguars to part with draft picks and be willing to pay the $25 million franchise-tag amount it would take to land Nick Foles, especially since they have $16.5 million in dead money with Blake Bortles. The Jaguars will sign a veteran quarterback and move up to ensure they land Dwayne Haskins. Tom Coughlin still believes in winning with the running game and defense (and the Patriots proved you can win a title that way), and that's how they will mitigate playing with a rookie quarterback.”
The Jaguars have a potent defense to coincide with the team's ability to run the football, thanks to the presence of former LSU Tigers running back Leonard Fournette. However, the team's defense struggled alongside Bortles in 2018-19 with Fournette missing a good portion of this past season due to lingering injuries.
Nonetheless, the Jaguars remain in position to succeed sooner rather than later, that is, if the AFC South franchise remains primed to select a quarterback early on in the 2019 NFL Draft.
