The old phrase goes: “If it ain't broke, don't fix it.” Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes likes that one.

Mahomes discussed the Chiefs' offseason with Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, saying he was thrilled the front office worked so hard to keep the championship core together.

“I think it was just how many people we brought back. I mean, we kept this thing together. When you're in times like this when you don't get to be around the team, you don't get to see everybody every single day like you're used to and learn how to build those cultures together. To already have those lasting relationships and knowing where you can count on people and having those people in the building that do things the right way, I think that was huge for us to do.”

Indeed, the Chiefs will return 20 of its 22 starters from a team that won the Super Bowl last year.

Just weeks after Kansas City signed Mahomes to a record-breaking deal; they also offered star defensive tackle, Chris Jones, a lucrative extension. It has become abundantly clear Brett Veach will do what is necessary to maintain the recipe for success.

Mahomes noted it is comforting to know the team can “pick up” where they left off once training camp begins, adding rookies like running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire will immediately know what to expect and how to conduct themselves.

Some Chiefs players seem even hungrier than they were before. Jones claimed after signing his extension; he would win Defensive Player of the Year.

Clearly, the Chiefs are feeling good as they get set to defend their Super Bowl title. Familiarity certainly will not be an issue.
