Although the Oakland Raiders made a splash with the acquisition of wide receiver Antonio Brown this offseason, it appears his tenure with the team could be over before it even started.
The drama in Oakland has taken a turn for the worse following Brown's dispute with general manager Mike Mayock. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Raiders could look to void the guaranteed money in his contract.
Article Continues BelowThere are those around the league who now believe the Raiders could suspend Antonio Brown with the idea of trying to void the $30.125 million of guaranteed money in his contract.
Which obviously would end his time in Oakland.
The prospect of Brown's tenure with the Raiders already coming to an end may seem far-fetched, however, it is safe to say that the situation has gotten out of hand.
Brown held out of the bulk of training camp and the preseason due to a botched cryotherapy session that left him with frostbitten feet. It was then supplemented by his multiple grievances against the NFL regarding the ban of his old helmet. Just when things started to cool down, the seven-time Pro Bowler fanned the flames once again by taking to social media to voice his displeasure with being fined for missing said practices.
Initial reports suggested that a potential suspension could have an effect on the guaranteed money he was slated to earn in 2020, however, it appears it could cost him even more than that. Regardless of how this shakes out, the recent events are hardly a promising sign for what is to come in the 2019 NFL season.
