After winning a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos, future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning decided to call it a career and left the AFC West wide open with teams like the Oakland Raiders trying to take advantage.

During Manning's short stint with the Broncos, up-and-comer Derek Carr got a chance to go head-to-head with the legendary quarterback and relished every minute of it. On Thursday, the Raiders got a surprise visit from Manning at training camp. Carr finally got to pick the brain of the man he'd admired for so long, via ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.

“Peyton's one of my favorite all-time (players) and he's one of the best to ever play the game so just to pick his mind … I took full advantage of today,” said Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who is learning his third different offensive system in four years.

“Just after whatever drill, I'd go, ‘Hey, how was the communication? How was the execution?' And he'd give his feedback, you know? To have that, from someone like Peyton, I think that's kind of invaluable.”

Carr is trying to cement his legacy in Oakland while at the helm of Jon Gruden's Raiders. Manning's sage advice should only help the talented quarterback make that next step from up-and-coming star to undisputed leader and Super Bowl contender.

The perennial Pro Bowl quarterback is coming off a disappointing season for his standards after being a legitimate MVP candidate the previous year. Gruden has a lot of faith in Carr and will give him the opportunity to continue striving for greatness wearing the iconic silver and black in 2018.
