The Las Vegas Raiders have loaded up on offense in the 2020 NFL Draft, beginning with the selection of Henry Ruggs with the No. 12 pick. Shortly after Las Vegas added Ruggs, Derek Carr reacted to the Raiders taking the speedy wide receiver in the first round.
Mayock said he and Carr have been texting back and forth. "He was fired up after the Ruggs pick and then there were a bunch if emojis I couldn't make out after the Bowden and Edwards picks. I guess he was also very happy about those." #Raiders

Heading into the draft, it was expected that the Raiders were going to add a playmaker with the No. 12 pick. Even though Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb were still available, Las Vegas had their sights on Ruggs.
With Ruggs joining the offense, Carr now has another vertical threat in the offense. Last offseason, the Raiders signed Tyrell Williams and during the 2019 season, Darren Waller had a breakout year at tight end.
While Carr isn't known for pushing the ball down the field, it's evident that Jon Gruden wants to entice him to do so in 2020. Besides Ruggs, the Raiders also drafted Lynn Bowden and Bryan Edwards. Bowden could see some time at running back and Edwards figures to stay at receiver.
Seeing who Las Vegas drafted in the early rounds, they are making a concerted effort to make sure Carr has the best chance to succeed. Therefore, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the veteran quarterback is excited about the Raiders' selections.
On the other hand, heading into his seventh season, Carr doesn't have any excuses in 2020. This past season, Carr finished with 4,054 yards and 21 touchdowns. There's no doubt that those numbers should increase next season with Ruggs and the other receivers that the Raiders took in the draft.
