Earlier this week, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr ripped ESPN First Take co-hosts Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman, calling the two analysts “clowns” and even going as far to tweet UFC president Dana White to ask how he could challenge them to an octagon fight.

Carr has drawn heavy criticism for his comments, but new Raiders general manager Mike Mayock actually appreciated Carr's intensity:

“I like our quarterback. I like the attitude,” Mayock said on NFL Network, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “Sometimes guys get frustrated by what they perceive to be a lack of understanding in the media. And these days in the media, let’s be honest, guys shoot first and ask questions later.”

Mayock also said that he does not follow social media and did not know of all of the intricate details involving Carr's beef with Smith and Kellerman.

Carr's anger stemmed from Kellerman saying that the Raiders signal-caller appeared to quit at points during the regular season because he was shell-shocked.

On the season, Carr threw for 4,049 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 68.9 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 93.9.

The 27-year-old, who signed a massive five-year, $125 million extension in June 2017 that made him the richest quarterback in NFL history at the time, was originally selected by Oakland in the second round (35th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Carr made three straight Pro Bowls between 2015 and 2017, including a 2016 campaign in which he finished with 3,937 yards, 28 touchdowns and six picks before breaking his leg in Week 16, causing him to miss the playoffs.
