Martavis Bryant’s separation from the Oakland Raiders didn’t last too long. Just a couple weeks after his release from the team, Bryant is back with the team after signing a one-year deal.
As Kyle Martin of the team's official website writes, Bryant admits feeling some apprehension about his future following his release, but he continued to stay focused and ready to play.
“I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen,” he said. “I just stayed focused – they talked to my agent – and continue to do the proper things I needed to do to put myself in a better situation to get back to [playing] football,” Bryant told reporters Thursday.
Bryant caught some heat from Raiders head coach Jon Gruden during training camp for his inability to learn the playbook and overall disappointing play. But the veteran wideout claims he’s now comfortable in the system and is ready to continue learning it.
“I’m comfortable now, but at the same time with Coach Gruden’s offense you have to keep studying every day, and continue being a student of the book,” Bryant explained. “I’m way farther along compared to how I was when I first got here, and I’m just continuing to get better.”
Gruden is certainly counting on Bryant to perform much better the second time around. He feels like Bryant is in a “really good place” at the moment, which bodes well for his chances of becoming the difference-making offensive weapon the Raiders had in mind when they first brought him to Oakland.
