Melifonwu has placed on injured reserve on September 11th, 2018 with a hip injury but is now fully healthy and is free to sign with any team. Melifonwu played in just five games with the Raiders and missed a lot of time with injury but there is no question he is a talented football player and should find a new home quickly.
Gruden is trying to get his players in Oakland and he has made it clear he doesn't care where you are drafted if you don't fit you will be released from the team.
Article Continues BelowGruden has had a busy week also trading Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys in return for a first round pick. It seems that Gruden has accepted that this year or next year won't be the best for the Raiders and he is embracing the rebuild.
The Raiders also swapped kickers on Tuesday releasing Matt McCrane and signing former Minnesota Viking Daniel Carlson. Carlson has a big leg but three missed field goals earlier in the season against the Green Bay Packers cost him his job.
Carlson didn't kick another field goal with the Vikings after that so it is still to be seen how those misses hurt his confidence. Maybe all he needed was a change of scenery and the Raiders and Gruden can offer him just that. His first chance to kick will be on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
