The Oakland Raiders ended up taking Clemson defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell with the fourth overall pick of the NFL Draft last Thursday, officially putting to bed any talk that the Raiders could potentially take a quarterback with their first selection.

But, the Raiders didn't even want to make a selection at No. 4 at all.

According to Peter King of NBC Sports, Oakland actually wanted to trade down from its spot, but it didn't receive any phone calls.

Honestly, if the Raiders wanted to move down that badly, they could have made some calls themselves.

Either way, Oakland had three first-round draft picks as it was, so it wasn't like the Raiders were starving for assets. In addition to Ferrell, they also took Alabama running back Josh Jacobs at No. 24 and Mississippi State safety Jonathan Abrams with the 27th overall selection.

It has certainly been one heck of an offseason for Jon Gruden and Co.

Following a season in which Oakland won just four games in Gruden's first year at the helm, the Raiders have completely made over their team, adding the likes of players such as Antonio Brown, Trent Brown, Lamarcus Joyner, and Vontaze Burfict.

While the jury is still out on whether or not Oakland can compete in what is a tough AFC West division headlined by the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers, the Raiders should definitely be better than they were a year ago, and they seem to have a chance of making the playoffs for just the second time since last making it to the Super Bowl back in the 2002-03 campaign.
