There have been a lot of national media reports the past week that the Raiders had reached a deal to stay in Oakland in 2019 and play at the Coliseum, but those apparently might not be accurate. “No deal has been reached,” according to David DeBolt of The East Bay Times.

Although he contends nothing is finalized, DeBolt does concede that the two sides are close in their negotiations. He also notes that it might not be wrapped up by the end of the week. The drama surrounding where the Raiders would play next year seemed to be over, but it's not quite yet.

The Raiders are, of course, planning to move to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. Their lease with the Coliseum expired after this past season, and since their Vegas stadium wasn't ready yet, they were left without a home for 2019.

For a while, there were rumors that they would relocate to an entirely new city like San Diego just for one season. Then reports indicated they were contemplating moving across the Bay to play in San Francisco. But the 49ers objected to that move, which effectively killed those talks.

While it might not be official, it seems all but certain they'll be back in Oakland for one final ride with their home fans. The Raiders were a big disappointment in Jon Gruden's first year back as coach, finishing with a 4-12 record and coming in last place in the AFC West.

With the Chiefs and Chargers on the rise and the Broncos making aggressive moves to improve, the Raiders have their work cut out for them. They can't afford any more distractions, so it'll be a relief to finally put this stadium story out of the way.
