Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley did not play in Week 16 due to a knee injury. However, Rams coach Sean McVay says their star RB will suit up in Week 17 if he is healthy.
“We want to do what’s best for Todd most importantly and what’s best for Todd is also what’s best for our football team,” McVay said per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “We don’t want to do anything where we’re putting him in harm’s way, if we feel like it could be something where we’re putting him at risk. But if he’s getting back, if he’s feeling good, then the anticipation is getting him ready to go. But we’re just going to take this one day at a time right now.”
The Rams were reportedly planning for Gurley to play last week against the Arizona Cardinals. However, they decided to err on the side ofc caution and sit him out after he went through a pregame workout.
Article Continues BelowThe Rams didn’t miss Gurley at all as they throttled the last-placed Cardinals, 31-9. Veteran C.J. Anderson started in place of Gurley and ripped off 167 yards with a touchdown in his Rams debut. Anderson’s promising performance could give McVay more confidence to sit Gurley for one more week.
The Rams still have something to play for in Week 17 as they need a win to secure the No. 2 seed. But even without Gurley, they should still like their chances of grabbing that victory against a San Francisco 49ers team that they crushed 39-10 in La earlier this season.
